2008 PFY Wrestling Season
Our youth wrestlers completed their season
March 9th at Clarkston High School participating in MMWA Finals.
The week before our young Panthers wrestled a regional qualifier
at Clio with a total of 35 wrestlers with 18 qualifying for State
Finals. All our young athletes wrestled well, these young men
continued to the state tournament Nick Bierlein,Logan Bovee,Nolan
Bovee, Jared Elliot, Justin Elliot, Logan Young, Daimion Young,
Billy Kolpf, Damian Johnson, Jacob Kross, Chace Miller, Eric
Naylor, William Pieard, Caleb Slavik, Brian Reece, Johnny Sayan,
Austin Smith, and Kyle Proctor.
Wrestling under our Parents For Youth Program these young men were
trained and organized by a great group of parents and volunteers
dedicated to their success. Tom Bovee once again represented us at
league meetings and organized sign ups, tournaments ,and coached.
Mike Miller, Rob Cook, Jerry Cook, and Randy Taylor ran practices
and coached on the weekends at the many tournaments our young
Panthers battled in. With out the dedication and unselfish
commitment to our team from these coaches and parents our program
would not be completive in such a tough league.
The State Tournament is the high light of the season and is what
we work for all year; all of our young wrestlers accomplished
great things along the way. There were over 750 wrestlers from all
areas of the state wrestling in many different age groups and
weight class competing for a state medal. From these wrestlers
Birch Run brought home four state medals : Justin Elliott finishing
fourth, Jared Elliott finishing fourth, Billy Kolpf also finishing
fourth with Caleb Slavik placing second.
We would like to thank our community and Schools for supporting
our program. A special thanks to a couple of local business that
support our team : Mid Michigan Screen Printing for their support
with great designs and excellent service ,Bierlein Photography for
the photos for our Wrestling Room and paper.
